Staff Selection Commission conducts Combined Graduate Level (CGL) Exams to select candidates for posts where the eligibility is Graduation. The scheme of test and the syllabus were revised in 2010 when the commission decided to hold the same test for all the posts and divided the selection process into different tiers or levels.

Pattern of Examination
The Written Exam for SSC Combined Graduate Level, for all posts will be, conducted in three tiers as indicated below. All questions will be of Objective Multiple Type Choice. The questions will be set both in Hindi and English.
Tier 1: Written Examination
Tier 2: Written Examination
Tier 3: Personality Test / Interview or Skill Test
Candidates opting for post of Sub-Inspector in CPOs will be required to undergo Physical Endurance Test (PET) / Medical Examination at any convenient time after declaration of result of Tier I.
SSC CGL TIER I Examination
TIER I - Scheme of Test:
The scheme of test for TIER I is same for all posts:
The tier I will consist of 200 questions carrying 200 marks. The test will be divided into four sections of 50 marks each. The total time allowed will be 2 Hours (extra 40 minutes for the Visually Handicapped).
A. General Intelligence & Reasoning (50 Qs, 50 Marks)
B. General Awareness (50 Qs, 50 Marks)
C. Quantitative Aptitude (50 Qs, 50 Marks)
D. English Comprehension (50 Qs, 50 Marks)
SSC CGL TIER II Examination
TIER II - Scheme of Test:

The written test will consist of three different papers (subjects) and depending upon the category of posts applied for, the candidates will be required to appear either in one, or in two or in all the three papers, as the case may be.
1. Quantitative Ability (100 Qs, 200 Marks, for all posts)
2. English Language & Comprehension (200 Qs, 200 Marks, for all posts)
3. Statistics (100 Qs, 200 Marks, ONLY for Statistical Investgators)
SSC CGL TIER III Tests
Interview is also conducted for some posts like assistants, inspector of income-tax/inspector (central excise/preventive officer/examiner) sub inspector in CBI, inspector of posts, assistant enforcement officer, statistical investigators grade II , compilers and sub-inspectors in central police organization. The personality test/ interview will carry a maximum of 100 marks for all the above categories of posts/ service.
There is no interview component for the posts of divisional accountants, auditors, accountants/junior accountants, UDCs and tax assistants.
For the post of Tax Assistants (Central Excise & Income Tax):
Data Entry Speed of 8,000 (eight thousand) Key Depression per hour on Computer
The “Data Entry Speed” Skill Test will be of qualifying nature. Computer will be provided by the Commission at the Centre/venue notified for the purpose.
