3. Penelope Cruz became the first Spanish actor to win an Oscar for her supporting role in Vicky Cristina Barcelona.
4. Heath Ledger from Australia was named best supporting actor for his role in "The Dark Knight". He is only the second person after Peter Finch to win an Oscar posthumously.
5. Bhanu Athaiya was the first Indian to win an Oscar in 1982. He was awarded this honour for Best Costume design for "Gandhi".
