UGC NET Exam: Scheme, Pattern and Syllabus for Paper I, II and III

University Grants Commission UGC holds the National Eligibility Test (NET) for determining the eligibility of Indian nationals for the Award of Junior Research Fellowships (JRF) and eligibility for Lectureship in Indian universities and colleges. Thousand of candidates appear for the test conducted twice a year. Today we are posting the details of the pattern of the UGC NET Exam.
(i) The UGC NET Test consists of three papers. They are divided into two separate sessions. The breakup of the papers is as follows:

Paper-I
This paper is of general nature, intended to assess the teaching/research aptitude of the candidate. It is designed to test reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness of the candidate. It will primarily be designed to test reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness of the candidate.
Changes in December 2009: Internal Choice
UGC has decided to provide choice to the candidates from the December 2009 UGC NET onwards. Sixty (60) multiple choice questions of two marks each will be given, out of which the candidate would be required to answer any fifty (50). In the event of the candidate attempting more than fifty questions, the first fifty questions attempted by the candidate would be evaluated
Paper-II shall consist of short questions based on the subject selected by the candidate.
Both Paper I and Paper II consist of a 50 objective type questions.
Paper-III
This part consists of only descriptive questions from the subject selected by the candidate. The candidate will be required to attempt questions in the space provided in the Test Booklet.
Note: Paper-III is evaluated only for those candidates who are able to secure the minimum qualifying marks in Paper-I and Paper-II, as per the table given in the following:

Negative Marking in UGC NET Paper I and II:
Negative marking at the rate of 25% has been introduced from December 2009 UGC-NET onwards. For each incorrect answer, 0.5 marks shall be deducted.

I have applied for NET 2009 in Management,just wanted to know will I get paper 2 and 3 on my specialization i.e marketing or it will be about Management as a whole.

The entire paper 2 and part A od paper 3 are same for all specializations. However part B of paper 3 will be different for different specializations.
e.g. I'm attempting for HR & you're in mktg, in this case we'll have same paper 1,2 and 3(A). Only the essay type question will be different.
All specilation questions for essay type questions will be mentioned, Whatever you'll attempt will be considered.

These days there're several books of UGC NET available.
Their cost is about Rs 350-400.
Just visit some book shops and ask for UGC NET book for Management subject
