There are dozens of management entrance exams in India. Some colleges have their own tests. There are many states which conducts localized entrance tests. AICTE decided to start a common test called CMAT for admissions to all AICTE approved institutes offering PGDM (Post Graduate Diploma in Management) courses. So it will slowly replace other management entrance tests like CAT, XAT, ATMA, MAT etc. for admission into its affiliated colleges.
It is a great step forward to ease the pressure in seeking admission into management courses as now candidates don’t need to appear for different entrance exams. As for CMAT 2012 colleges are free to choose other exams, we expect almost all of them to switch to CMAT in 2013 or 2014.
Any graduate in any discipline are eligible for CMAT. Note that students appearing for final year exams can also apply.
CMAT Age Limit:
No age limit has been prescribed for CMAT.
CMAT Test Mode:
AICTE has decided to make CMAT a Computer Based Test (CBT). So you will have to use a computer for appear for the test. The test will be conducted at designated CMAT centres approved by AICTE. This is the right decision as we should shun pen and paper tests as soon as possible.
Like other management entrance exams, CMAT will be divided into four sections namely:
- Logical Reasoning (25 Qs)
- Verbal Ability and Language Comprehension (25 Qs)
- Numerical Ability and Data Interpretation (25 Qs)
